How long will it take to process my share transfer?

The time it takes to process your share transfer depends on the type of transfer and the completeness of the documentation provided.

Processing times by transfer type

  • Standard share transfers (off-market transfers) — Typically processed within 3 to 5 business days once all required documentation has been received and verified.

  • CHESS-sponsored transfers — Usually completed within 3 business days after the transfer request is submitted and accepted by both brokers.

  • Issuer-sponsored conversion - Usually completed within 3 business days after the conversion request is submitted and accepted by both share registry and broker (Bell Direct).

  • Estate or deceased account transfers — These may take longer due to the additional documentation required, such as probate or letters of administration. Processing times can range from 10 to 15 business days.

What may cause delays

  • Incomplete or incorrectly completed forms

  • Missing certified documentation

  • Discrepancies in holder details between the transferring and receiving accounts

  • Public holidays or high-volume processing periods
